Why Story Matters

It’s so obvious, you won’t believe it at first. And then you’ll take a breath, and know it’s absolutely true.

You’re missing a story.

A story.

Here the thing: in today’s world, disconnection is a fatal flaw. The inability to connect cripples the brightest entrepreneurs, the most driven managers, and the most eager creative types. We live in a world where planes fly into towers, corporate transparency is scarce, spam flies at us from every corner, technology widgets keep us always on, and the ability to fast-forward or minimize anything we’re not immediately interested in has dropped our attention span to nine seconds. Nine seconds to connect. Nine seconds to decide if you’re in . . . or you’re out.

Before you throw in the towel, remember that you still have something very powerful at your disposal, something that stands eye-to-eye with all of the distraction and distrust. You still have your story.

What does any of this have to do with my business?
When it’s told with both clarity and sincerity, your story is your best thing. Not only does it get you over the nine-second hump, it educates, inspires, and calls to action. Your story, in whatever form—web site, speech, eBook, video, or blog—reinforces your brand, and provides the vital link between you and the clients you want to reach.

Bottom line: People buy from people they connect with. Whether it’s 140 characters or 140 pages, every piece of your story has the chance to forge a connection. I’m here to help make sure that happens. I’m here to shut the door behind you, toss the key into the wind, and not let you back down from your story. I’m here to make sure that you are using your story to its fullest.

I’m a copy strategist. That’s why I take a storytelling approach to everything that has to do with your message (and some things you probably don’t think have to do with your message at all). I help people build their brand strategy by finding their voice, and then we develop the voice into web site copy, videos, eBooks and books, speeches, and whatever else they need.

I’ll research your business, interview the right people, and put the pieces together for you. I can even coordinate with your designer, or bring a designer on board.

Does it take time? Yes.

Is it an investment? Yes.

Is there a short cut? Of course. But you won’t like where it dumps you out.

Let’s build your brand, write a kick-ass “About” page and bio for you, script a video, write a book, or craft a manifesto. I’m in–as long as we get to tell your story.
